ancient Greece was not a unified country. greece was different from many civilizations. it didn't depend on rivers to form river valleys. it is a very mountainous land with deep valleys and highlands. Mountains divided the people. The deep valleys and high rugged lands caused the greeks a problem, they could not harvest any farm, or have any farmland. they didn't have any fertile land to farm on.
there were seas everywhere to be found around the coastline of greece. like the mediterranean sea. the mediterrenean sea was helpful, just as much as the other seas. it let the greeks trade with other civilizations. the other seas were the aegan sea, which lies to the east, the ionian seawhich separates italy from greece, and of course, the mediterranean sea, which links greece with asia, north africa, and part of europe.
with all of the seas surrounding greece, it helped the greeks become great sailors and traders. trading and sailing to different countries and unities, allowed the greeks to learn more about other cultures. these three seas, the aegan, ionian, and mediterranian, helped greece learn about the way of life in different cultures and also helped them trade goods with their neighbors and the fishing provided another source of food for them.
